Eltham Redbacks FC is pleased to confirm the signing of Liam Wolstenholme ahead of the 2026 season.
The 23-year-old central midfielder joins the Redbacks following a strong spell with Springvale White Eagles, where he developed into a consistent and reliable performer through the club’s rise into VPL Men 2.
Wolstenholme has gained senior experience with Langwarrin, Doveton, and Springvale, with his minutes and responsibility increasing at each step of the journey. During his two and a half year stint at the Serbian Sports Centre, he played every minute of every competitive match, highlighting his durability and exceptional level of fitness.
Off the pitch, Wolstenholme brings a professional edge, holding sports science and strength-and-conditioning qualifications alongside his playing career.
After playing against the Redbacks last season, Wolstenholme says making the move to Eltham North Reserve was an easy decision.
“You could tell when they walked onto the pitch that we’re going to fight and they’re going to make it a really difficult match to win,” he says.
“And obviously back-to-back promotions, you’ve got to have an unbelievable culture to do that.
“So, the attraction of stepping into a team like that, and hopefully pushing on for a third back-to-back-to-back was something really enticing for me.”
Wolstenholme is typically modest about his qualities on the pitch, but takes pride in his tireless work ethic.
“I’m a hard working box to box 8 or 6. I like to win my second balls, move it to someone a little bit more skillful than myself and let them do the hard work,” he says.
“So you’ll see me getting up and down for a majority of the time, and then just trying to keep it really simple.”
Wolstenholme joins Liam O’Connell, Josh Millar, Mehmet Uysal and Marcus Day among the new additions to Alan Mulcahy’s squad for our upcoming VPL1 campaign.
