Eltham Redbacks FC is pleased to confirm that midfielder Josh Dennett has re-signed for the 2026 VPL2 season.
Dennett has become one of the defining figures of the Redbacks’ rise over the past two years. His consistency, competitiveness, and ability to change the rhythm of a match have made him a central piece of the senior men’s squad since arriving in 2024.
A midfielder by trade, Dennett brings a rare blend of physical presence and attacking punch. His 2025 campaign underlined his importance: 25 league appearances, seven goals, and multiple decisive moments in high-pressure fixtures. He set the tone in midfield with his ball-winning, drive, and leadership, and delivered at key moments with goals that shifted momentum late in games.
His hat-trick against Whittlesea United, a stoppage-time finish against Brunswick Juventus, and his equaliser against Essendon Royals all reflected a player who steps forward when the contest is tight. Those contributions helped anchor the Redbacks’ strongest stretch of VPL2 form to date and assisted the club in its second-place finish and promotion to VPL1 in 2026.
Dennett’s performances earned league-wide recognition. At the 2025 Victorian Football Gala, he was voted VPL2 Men’s Players’ Player of the Year, chosen by his peers across the division. For a Redbacks midfielder to claim that award speaks to how influential he has become, not just within the club but across the competition.
Dennett’s long throw was another highlight of his campaign, with his ability to deliver an incredible throw-in threat from anywhere in the final third adding a potent weapon to the Redbacks’ considerable arsenal.
The club looks forward to seeing Dennett once again driving the team in the engine room as Eltham pushes for a new benchmark in 2026.
