Eltham Redbacks FC is proud to confirm Billy Romas has re-signed for the 2027 season, his fifth at the club.
Romas comes into this re-signing off the best season of his Redbacks career. He scored 18 goals in 2026, 15 in VPL1 and three more in the Dockerty Cup, then swept the Senior Men’s awards at presentation night: Best and Fairest, Top Goal Scorer and Players’ Player.
Since joining ahead of the 2023 season, Romas has played 94 games for the Redbacks and scored 49 goals, starting 90 of them.
The goals have kept pace with every step up. He hit 14 in his first season at the club, added eight more as the Redbacks won the title in 2024, and scored nine in the 2025 promotion season out of VPL2. Given his first crack at VPL1, he produced his best return yet.
Romas starts 2027 one goal short of 50 for the club and six games short of 100. Both could come early in the new season.
He scored on his league debut, against Collingwood City on 17 March 2023, and has scored in every season since. That run includes hat-tricks against Bentleigh United Cobras in 2023 and Port Melbourne Sharks in 2026, and a brace against Brunswick Juventus in February this year.
When Melbourne Victory came to The Web in May and turned a two-goal deficit into a 3-2 lead, it was Romas who levelled for a 3-3 draw.
Romas has been in the side for every step of the Redbacks’ rise, and in our first VPL1 season he helped take the club to a top-six finish and the promotion play-offs.
We’re thrilled to have Billy back in Red & Black for 2027.
