Eltham Redbacks FC is delighted to confirm that senior men’s captain and VPL2 Goalkeeper of the Year Abdulkerim “Kez” Koc has re-signed for the 2026 season.
Koc’s return ensures the Redbacks retain one of the most influential figures in the division. As captain and first-choice goalkeeper, he has shaped the standards, mentality, and identity of the senior men’s side during the club’s rise through to VPL1.
The 2025 season again showed his importance. Koc featured in all 26 league matches, providing stability, presence, and leadership in a competition where momentum is everything. His command of the penalty area, organisation of the defensive unit, and assured distribution were central to the Redbacks’ progression.
His performances were recognised across the league, with Koc voted VPL2 Goalkeeper of the Year – a testament not only to his level, but the respect he commands among opponents and coaches. The accolade followed a string of decisive displays in tight matches where his experience made the difference.
Koc has spoken often about the connection he feels to this group, and his reflections after the club’s promotion were a clear insight into why he continues to lead the side.
“We’ve got a group with genuine belief and closeness,” he said. “The ingredients were there. I’ve been around senior football for a long time and the culture we’ve built here is unlike anything I’ve been part of.”
He also highlighted the standards that have carried the Redbacks through difficult moments.
“We talk heavily about standards and being comfortable in uncomfortable situations. That belief, that willingness to ride things out together, is what gets us through.”
For Koc, the captaincy is as much about the people around him as the armband itself.
“I’ve been helped by the boys, by my peers, by my coaches. They’ve guided me through the moments where I’ve needed it. Whenever I come here, I feel like I’m coming home.”
Koc’s connection to the wider Redbacks community also plays a role in his commitment.
“Seeing the people around the club, the parents, the kids that come up to me – it makes it all much more enjoyable.”
Securing the club captain for another season represents a major step forward for Eltham as preparations build toward 2026. Koc remains central to the Redbacks’ ambition-setting the tone in the dressing room, anchoring the team on the pitch, and carrying the culture that has driven the club’s rise.
