A huge thanks to Jellis Craig North East for presenting this weekend’s match preview.
A goal down inside three minutes, three up by thirteen, and four on the board by full time. A difficult loss to Brunswick the week before was swiftly banished from memory, as the Redbacks Women climbed back in second on the table. Ringwood City visit The Web on Saturday night with the title conversation still very much alive.
Eltham sit second on seventeen points after eight rounds, three behind FC Clifton Hill at the top, ahead of Bundoora United on goal difference and clear of Brunswick Juventus by three. Ringwood City arrive eighth on nine points, with perhaps a stronger resume than the table position suggests. Two wins, three draws, two losses in seven, goal difference plus two, and crucially, one fewer game played than most of the chasing pack. Organised, awkward, the kind of side capable of frustrating a team chasing the win at home if the early tempo does not arrive. The last meeting between these two sides at this venue finished all square at 1-1, but the Redbacks have grown and evolved since then.
Berks now has an astonishing 12 goals in six starts, putting her second in the Golden Boot race. Paige Foa has five – scoring consecutively in each of her last five outings. If the defence holds, the Eltham attack has the firepower to put any team in this division to the sword.
Around the grounds on Saturday afternoon, Brunswick Juventus host Clifton Hill in the round’s headline fixture, and Manningham welcome Bundoora. The picture at the top moves with all three results. Saturday at The Web is the one the Redbacks control.
7:30pm Saturday. The Web. Up the ‘Backs.
